How are degree programmes administered at Napier?
Staff
The programme leader, Ben Bate, is in overall charge of the BA Accounting and joint programmes.
Penny Gardner is the year 3 guidance tutor and Andrea Sutherland is the programme administrator.
Other members of staff are module leaders and module lecturers amd tutors.
Module Boards
The module boards meet three times a year:
- In February to consider the semester 1 results;
- In June to consider the semester 2 results;
- and in September to consider the August resit results.
External examiners give an independent overview of the marking standards at years 3 and 4 (and postgraduate level)
At module board meetings, each module leader presents results for their module. If you are taking modules in Accounting, Law and Management, then these results will be considered by three separate module boards - your overall results as an individual aren't looked at until the programme boards.
Programme Boards
These meet twice a year; in June to consider the results for the academic year and in September to consider the resit results. Each student's profile is considered separately and mitigating circumstances are taken into account. A narrow fail in a module may be condoned, if the rest of the results are good. Therefore a result of, say, 38% from the February module board may end up being condoned at the June programme board.
The programme board makes the decisions on awards, prizes / course medals, progression and degree classification.
